Crazy Busy

First of all, as you can tell I have my laptop up running right now at the bare minimum level (it still needs A LOT of work...maybe next week we can finish it up, but at least I have it working).

Second, life has been crazy busy around here with lots going on the past coupe of weeks and a couple of guests. The first guest to arrive was our friend the "Kraut" (aka Andy) for his fall Mizzou trip (he got here late Tuesday evening). He likes to make two US trips a year, one in the spring to work camps with Don, and the second in the fall to work a home and away game (he sure loves Mizzou)! :) I always like to joke with him, "You spend all of that money to come to the states and of all places you pick here!"...he laughs and claims he loves it (and Mizzou football)! 

The second guest to arrive was my dad who flew in today. Poor guy came into a very busy day (heck who am I kidding it has been a crazy week). This morning started off with Miss Bella's class field trip to the pumpkin patch (the same one that I brought the kids to a couple weeks ago)...this trip was 8:30-11:30. After her trip we rushed to daddy's office to pick up grandpa (daddy was kind enough to pick him up at our airport for me), shoved sandwiches down our throats and then headed off to Miss Liv's class field trip to their Partner in Education's property from 11:45-2:24pm. They played games, painted pumpkins, listened to Halloween stories, recited Halloween poems to us, had snack, and went on a fun hayride. Both field trips were a lot of fun and we had a gorgeous day for them! After that we went back to the kids school to pick the rest of them up, get Liv's stuff from her class, then to our house, and then my dad brought my sister and a couple of the kids to get food/after school snacks.

Tonight we are having a Trunk-or-Treat at the complex that Don works at which should be lots of fun for the kids. My friend Adriene & I thought it would be a fun thing to do for the kids since all of the Support Staff wives & our spouses will be gone for Halloween. Which leads me to the reason why my dad is here. This weekend is our annual football wives trip and we are going to Baylor...I really look forward to it and it's always a good time! After the last two weeks that I've had I NEED this little break!!! I feel bad for my dad though because they are going to WEAR him out...oh well, someone else can have a turn to be run ragged other then me! :) Then after the Trunk-or-Treating tonight my dad & I have errands to run (run, run, run).

I have many fun pictures to post from the past week or so, so when my computer is up to par or I get access to Don's I will share them.

October Employee of the Month

Don is not one to toot his own horn and doesn't care for recognition (heck he didn't even tell me about this, I had to hear about it from some of his co-workers), but I thought it was important for me to document this at least for our children (but really I wanted you all to know too...I've got too brag every once in a while). One day the kids can look back on this and know what kind of person their dad is/was and the kind of work ethic that he exhibits(ed).

Yesterday was the monthly athletic department staff meeting and this when they recognize the Employee of the Month...prior too everyone is informed via email!

Here is the email that went out:

Congratulations to Don Barnes, our October Employee of the Month. Don was recognized for his people skills and his ability to lead people. His integrity, the ability to create good relationships and the ability to lead by example goes over and beyond. Not only does he show a genuine liking for people, but he always has a pleasant personality and the willingness to help out. The ability he has to multi-task is indescribable. I’ve also never seen him without a pleasant work attitude. His out-going, tactful, courteous, and professional nature makes it easy calling “Barnesy” the BEST Director of Athletics Equipment. Sometimes his persistent, cheerful, positive demeanor is all we need to keep things in order and to keep the work day moving smoothly.

Way to go babe, we are VERY PROUD of you and love you very much!!

Do you know what's pathetic...

...when you're sore from playing a video game!!

I haven't played the Wii in awhile and decided to start up again two days ago. I have just been playing the Wii sports game with most of my attention to tennis and boxing. Holy cow, if you put everything you have into it it's a decent workout especially the boxing.

I currently feel like I have cinder blocks for hands!

Time to go dust off the Wii Fit and give that a go again...

#3 Lost

Miss O lost her third baby tooth on 10/20/08 at school. Her teacher assisted her in the removal of the tooth and is known for pulling teeth out for children...they come from all grades for her assistance (these kids are serious about their cash from the tooth fairy)! The tooth fairy visited last night and brought her loot (she didn't come by the night she lost it, but we think it's because it was too cold)!! ;)

Laptop Update

Good news to report, my laptop is back in my home!! Yea!!!!!

Bad news, is that Don can't get it downloaded with the info that had been backed up on the Time Capsule. He also informed me last night that he thinks that it had been even longer since it backed up to the time capsule then I originally thought (3 weeks ago)...not good folks, not good!!! AGGGGHHHH!!

Keep your fingers crossed that it works!

Weekend Recap

Friday: Don had left Thursday evening for the 15 hour bus ride to Texas so it was just the kids and I on Friday eve. We decided (mostly me) that it would be fun to have a low key evening in our pj's. So we settled on breakfast for dinner which included: pancakes, hash browns and bacon, a movie (Nim's Island) and the Catons joining us for the fun. I love these kind of nights!

Saturday: We slept in a little, got up, got ready, and headed to Arbys for a lunch on the go. We then headed to watch Lauren, our favorite lifeguard's, swim meet. She has been so supportive of our family and always willing to help us out, so it was fun to be able to support her for once! She did pretty well even though she had to swim against Mizzou which has a BIG swim team.

After the swim meet we went to Mass and then headed home to watch the football game with the Catons (yeah we spend a lot of time together during this time of year). The Tigers did not do well which lead to a disappointing loss to the Longhorns with a score of 56-31. We are now 5-2 and our ranking in has dropped to #15 (I'm surprised we are still in the top 25). This week is homecoming here at Mizzou so hopefully this will rejuvenate our boys enough to bring out a victory against Colorado on Saturday. Kick-off is at 5:30pm and airing on FSN.

Sunday: I brought Bailey to youth group which I found out when I cam to pick her up was cancelled (I asked why she didn't call me she told me that she was having fun just catting with her friend that was stuck there too) and the others stayed home while Don slept (he didn't get home from work until 8am and only got 3 hours of sleep....poor guy). We came home and I got everybody ready for family photos. At 3PM we headed over to Stephen's Park for our photo shoot with my friend Nancy until 4PM. We then came home, Don went to work and the rest of the evening was low key.

Not too exciting but I loved it as these next two weeks are going to be BUSY!!

I've Been Tagged

I have been tagged by my friend, Adriene, to tell 6 things that the blogging world might not know about me..so here it goes:

1. I have never been able to keep my bedroom clean for more then a day (my mom can attest to this)...not sure what is wrong with me. I have always admired those who have the bedroom that looks like nobody lives there.

2. I LOVE shoes (or ALL accessories)...which is part of the whole bedroom issue because I can't walk in my closet because it is covered with shoes. I cannot walk into a store without at least checking out the shoe section. When I find ones I like, if I can't buy them at that time, I obsess about them until I do! Sickness I know!

3. I was a cheerleader from 7th grade until my freshman year in college. I would have cheered longer had I not met Don and ruined my GPA...oops!

4. I was a vocal music major in college and sang 1st soprano, but the kicker is that I can't really read music. I get the gist of it but not very well at all...I do it all by ear! This my friends is why I'm not teaching.

5. I hate cats. I hat when they come up to you and rub all over you...they totally know when you don't like them. Not to mention they are pissy snobs!

6. At age four I was bit in the face by an English Bulldog named Sarge. My friends and I were sitting on my back steps along with the dog...the neighbor boy leaned over and kissed his dog and then I did, and then chomp right in the face! I only remember bits and pieces of it, but the one thing that sticks out in my mind are the royal blue straps that the ER strapped me down with. Oh and the cool plastic play food that my mom got for me when I was done. The dog was put to sleep (not his only offense...he got the mailman too) and he pretty much paid for my wedding!
7. I'm throwing in a bonus fun fact...I hate mornings!! If I could sleep until 10-11 I totally would! I much prefer being up really late and sleeping in!

On Cloud Nine!!!!

**Update** FYI he's even hotter in person...I know it's hard to believe that someone that good looking can get even better! And I've pretty much told everyone that even glances at me (hee hee)...giddy like a school girl!!

Every Tuesday and Thursday Don and I like to go workout/walk together, and today was no different. I got to his office and before we took off he says that we have to drop off a bag of gear in the indoor facility (we walk campus so we leave from his office)...I'm not thinking anything of it. We get over there and a camera crew comes walking out...still not thinking anything of it because when you have a decent team and a Heisman candidate they are around a lot. I go to open the first set of the double doors and beyond them I see Chase (our QB), Chad (our AD of Media Relations), a man I don't recognize and OMG...my heart starts skipping a beat! It is none other then my boyfriend (this is what we affectionately refer to him as, in my home)...Kirk Herbstreit. This man is BEAUTIFUL and I love to watch College Game Day not only because of college football but because of him!

My wonderful husband new he was coming for sometime and set me up so I could meet him. We walk in say hello and Don says, "Kirk I'd like you to meet my wife she's a big fan" (great now he thinks I'm a stalker...ok maybe I am but he doesn't need to know)! :) Then he says, "can I get a picture". I look at him, wait...what?...Me...with them? OMG! We get together Don pulls out his iPhone snaps and says "good". Form here we stand around chatting for a bit (boy I hope the drool and gazing wasn't too noticeable), then walk them out, and Don and I take off for our walk. The whole time I'm on cloud nine and BTW who cares that my laptop is broke, I just met the hottie!

Let me just remind you that I was coming to work out, so yeah no shower yet...uggh, I look like crap, and I've got my sunglasses on my head so I look extra retarded. Oh and Don said the photo looked good on his phone but not so much...of course it turned out blurry, but who cares I was touching the hottie and you can see enough! :)

Illness

**Thursday Update** Good job Brooke & Andy it is my computer (laptop) that is ill! For those of you that know me really well know that my laptop is like another limb to me and am lost without it (even though we do have a very strong love/hate relationship)! Not sure of the extent of her illness but what the pros said was, "it doesn't sound good"...poor girl! So, currently I'm using our old desktop Mac and the internet signal is horrendous in the den.

Sorry for those of you that I freaked out but I thought you would catch my hints. :)

Don is trying to resuscitate her as I share this with you. Please keep the youngest apple of my eye in your thoughts as she tries to recover from whatever it is that's ailing her.

Every fall the kids have a Monday off from school so us and the O'Connor's try to head to this fun little pumpkin farm outside of town if the weather is nice. Today turned out to be a beautiful day so off we went.

Fallen Tigers

On Saturday Mizzou played Oklahoma State on Farout field with a 7PM kick-off (also on ESPN 2). For what ever the reason our boys just couldn't get it together and we ended up losing 28-23...which makes us 5-1 and knocked us down in ranking from #3 to #11. Such a bummer but hopefully our boys can get their drive back this week and bring back a victory against the Texas Longhorns at Texas...kick-off is at 7PM on ABC (national coverage).

The positive/fun part of Saturday was it was a "mom's" game. The kids stayed home with a sitter while mom, Ang, and friends tailgated. We had a great time, the food was really good, but before the fun started I realized when I got to our tailgate that I had forgotten the BBQ at home so had to run all the way back home to get it...fortunately I was going against traffic and I only live 5 minutes from the complex.

Fearfest

**Note** I cheated on this post as I copied it off of Adriene's...no sense in us both writing the same thing when she did it just fine (FYI I warned her last night that I was going to do it sense she was the one with the camera)! :-) Thanks A.!

Last night, some girlfriends and I decided to go out and take part in the Halloween "fun" of going to a haunted house. We began the evening with dinner and "megarees" (margaritas) at a local restaurant then headed to Fearfest in Aimee's pregnant roller skate of a car. Once out there, we got a quick pic with the only creature that would let us and headed into the house...
It was pretty scary...not because of what it was, but because it was pretty dark and you couldn't see around the corners (where there would be someone waiting to jump out and scream at you.) At one point in the house you had to crawl through a small hole in the wall that eventually led you out of the house...that was pretty weird, but not too scary. Then you walked through the insane asylum...not too scary, just a lot of people acting crazy and screaming in your face (that got pretty annoying by the end of it all...but I guess that was all they could do since the rules stated that they couldn't touch you).

Anyways, then we went on the cornfield hay ride. The tractor took us to the back of the corn field where all the ghouls were walking out of the corn towards us...then they all stopped and started dancing the "Thriller" dance. So naturally, we all got up and danced too!!! But as we were preoccupied with the dancing, other ghouls come up behind us and scared all of us pretty badly.

Then they told us that we had to get out off of the hayride and walk back through the corn field maze. This wasn't sooo bad, as you could kinda see where the next person was waiting for you. However, there was a guy with a chainsaw that kept running after us. But he quickly lost interest in me when I asked if we could get a picture with him (I needed stuff for this post!!!) They said that they couldn't take pics...so they left us to go scare other unsuspecting guests.

It was a fun evening. I wouldn't say I was terrified...only slightly spooked on a few occasions. All in all, a good time. And glad to have gotten in on the Halloween spirit.

No More Tears (& no I'm not talking about J&J's soap)

I think it's safe to say that Bella actually likes school now...no more tears! She had a great day today and has been talking about it ever since I picked her up 2 hours ago! YEAH!!!

While she was in school Don and I went on our usual walk....I have to say it was the best one yet! I decided it might be fun to walk through campus and I was right (as usual) :-)...I was able to get my people watching & walking in at the same time...LOVE IT!!! BTW someone needs to plant the What Not to Wear team on campus...holy cow there were some horrendous outfit choices but it made the walk all the more entertaining! Oh yea, I'll be walking there again on Tuesday!

I have a fun evening planned with some girlfriends and I'll clue you in later!

PS. This morning Bella hopped into bed with me so we could cuddle before getting up. As she's loving on me with my chin in her hand she says, "Mommy, there was two puppies going down Olivia's bed last night!". Not sure if that was a dream or what but thought it was funny!

Turned a Corner

I think that Miss Bella has finally turned the corner at preschool...she has gone two and a half weeks now without tears (fingers crossed & knocking on wood).

On September 16th, a Tuesday, I became very worried about how the rest of the year would play out. She had many tears that morning when I dropped her off and when I went to pick her up the same thing...this had been going on for a few weeks but this day she was worse. As I walked in she came rushing for me and accidentally knocked over her juice in attempt to get to me in a hurry to get out of there. I started to clean it up and was talking with the teacher about my frustration because I wanted this to be a great experience for her but it was not going that direction at all. I also expressed Bella's concern that her friends didn't really want to play with her. The teacher shot back at me (yes shot), "Well they try but she just cries too much that they don't want to be around her! They try and comfort her but she wants nothing of it."...there was more to the conversation but this is the part that sticks out in my head. She then turns to holler at two boys that were playing around. At this point I'm a little perturbed at how she is reacting to me and the boys and had a bit of a red flag go up. I then told myself that she's probably having a rough day, her hubby's going in for surgery in a few days, we all have stressful days, blah, blah, blah.

The next day (Wednesday) at the older kids school, another mother (who's son also goes to the same preschool, same days , different teacher) asks how Bella is doing and which teacher she had again. I told her it's not going well and the teacher's name. At this point Bella turns to look at the mom and says, "She's EVIL!". Well that was a shock to me and that was the first time she had made that comment (another little flag).

Thursday morning rolls around and it's preschool time again and the tears, the "I don't want go", and the struggle begin. Don and I both brought her to school (we were still in the trying everything & anything to make it better stage)and on the way in I say, "Bella, I forgot to tell you but you will have a different teacher today...a substitute because Mrs. P has to be with her husband who's having his surgery today." I a little worried that she may freak out even more at this, but oh no, she looks up at me smiles and starts to skip (another little flag). She walks into the classroom, sits down & no tears. I pick her up three hours later and she runs to me, all smiles, and exclaims, "I didn't cry at all today mommy!". HMMM!?!?

Later that day she tells the kids all about her great day, her "new" teacher, and how she loves her. We all reminded her that she was only her teacher for the day and that her regular teacher would be back...she wasn't having it. So that evening I decided that it would be a great idea to get all the kids involved in a little "psych" project (I prepped the older ones before going into it): At dinner time I asked each child to tell us their favorite thing about their teacher. We got to Bella and her 1st comment was "she's evil" but then she was able to come up with, 'she reads us stories'. When went around the table again with the same question and then I asked for them to point out one negative/something that they didn't care for about their teacher. Nico of course says that there isn't anything because she's awesome....under my breath to him "come up with something, work with me here". So we finish the project and I'm praying that something stuck with her out of that.

Fast forward to Tuesday, 9/23 and she is upset again but not as bad as the previous week. I have a play date planned with one of her classmates after school so I use this as leverage with her, and I'm also hoping at this point if she creates a bond with someone outside of school that it may help during school. After I dropped her off I thought it would be a good idea to express my concern with the director especially after Bella's teacher says to me, "the sub said she did great with her, I sure hoe it's not me?". I chatted with the director, spied on Bella (she seemed to be having a better day then previous ones), chatted with the teacher about what we should do and then left feeling great about my decision.

Ever since that day school has been great! I'm sure it was a culmination of all the steps that were taken that helped to make this change. All I have to say is I'm glad she is enjoying preschool now because I was VERY stressed out over it all...no mother wants to see her child so upset about anything and I felt like I was DRAGGING her in their each time to a pack of hungry wolves (at least that's what her emotions portrayed to me).

Sorry this is so long (heck I didn't even put everything in) but I needed to get all documented.

Recap of Our Weekend

Friday:
Don left at 6am for Nebraska so mom had to do the morning routine and get the kids to school. After school Liv went to play at her friend Em's house and the rest of us came home to do some cleaning. Then that evening the rest of us went to our friend's, the Alnutt's house. Kate had a few of us football widows over for pizza, wine (for the moms of course), and adult conversation while the kids played together.

Saturday:
All morning was cleaning day! Nico tackled the toy room and I tackled the laundry room (neither project is near completion but at least we started). Bail had several little household projects to take care of, and Liv & Bella helped where ever needed. Then that evening, Bail went to babysit for the Spicci's and Nico spent the night at his friend Carson's house. While the girls and I hosted our little watch party, to watch MIZZOU cream Nebraska!

Sunday:
Bail had youth group in the morning and then we all went to our church's Oktoberfest. We had a fun time and we managed to win 3 cakes on the cake walk (I won one & Nico won 2 - he was loving that game & played it most of the day). I picked out a little packaged set for my cake of choice...it included a muffin tin, two boxes of corn muffin mix and cute fall napkins all bundled up cute...great idea! Nico picked out brownines and a red velvet cake. I'm loving going to this event now that the kids are getting older...they can just go on there own and play with their friends. Bella, myself, Tracy, Rob, Aimee, Adriene and her little ones sat in the shade, had sodas & snacks and listened to the bands...it was a pleasant day. Don had to work from 2-5 so he only stayed with a short time...he was also VERY tired as he had gotten home at 6:30am & only had 3 hours of sleep.

That evening we, along with the Caton's, were invited to the Spicci's house for an AWESOME Italian dinner made mostly by Tony, and of course we supplied the dessert! :) Again, we had a great time, with great food, great conversation, and great friends!!!

Tiger Ranking for Week 6

First I have to say, AWESOME job Tigers on the 52-17 victory of the Nebraska Corn Huskers making us 5-0...the 30 year streak has been broken!! Can I get an M-I-Z...?!?

Second, the Tigers are now ranked #3 in the AP Poll and #2 in the USA Today poll!! Can I get another M-I-Z...?!?

We stayed home (I know many of my friends gasp with shock that I didn't go), but the game was too late to make the road trip with 4 kids. So instead we had the Catons & Jana over to watch the game, and we had a good time...somehow the wins make these get togethers so much better! :)

Early Hibernation

I don't know about anyone else but I know I am not a fan of cold weather at all...the temps have been dropping into the 40's & 50's at night...YUCK!!! I feel like I'm experiencing early onset of hibernation...when it gets this cold all I want to do is curl up on the couch in a big fleece blanket! Therefore getting nothing accomplished...oh well I guess!

Maybe the cleaning fairy will stop by and do my housework for me...anyone have her number? :)

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In honor of my sister-in-law, Kari, who is a breast cancer survivor and who is celebrating her birthday today, please head on over to the Breast Cancer Site!

Anniversary Party

This past Saturday night some friends of ours celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a big shin-dig on Stephen's College campus...now you know your getting old when you have friend's that are celebrating 25 yrs. of marriage (AGHH)! Anyway, we went with the Catons and Spiccis and had a great time! After the party we headed to the Broadway Diner for some food (to soak some libations up)!
